Why are the cases of Anna, Isabellle and Genie important to social scientists?
The cases of Anna, Isabelle, and Genie are important because it is difficult to test isolation on human beings. Social Scientists can test it on apes but that is as close as they have reached. These three girls were discovered in terrible condition and the result of their terrible condition was isolation. Cases like these help the social scientist to have proper documentation on how isolation can effect human development and how can can treat them.
Describe how social interaction is the foundation of personality in these cases?
Socialization is so integrated in our lives that we sometimes overlook how important is it to us. But here, in these cases of Anna, Isabelle, and Genie we can see what can become of humans without socialization. Though they were physically alive but these girls were hardly humans. Without any social contact a child is not able to communicate with anybody, learn about new things etc. and are reduced to an object as a person. Sociologist defines socialization as a life long process by which people develop there potential and learn about the culture. Unlike other living beings, whose behavior is set my biology, humans need social culture and interaction to learn and survive. Socialization also sets our base for our foundation of personality, person’s fairly consistent patters of thinking, feeling and acting in social situations. Our personality is build by internalizing our surroundings but in absence of any social experience, as these cases shows, Personality hardly develops.
Do you agree with the assessment of personality or do you believe that people are more individual in nature?
I agree with the assessment of personality. I think that our social interaction with other people play an important in developing a person's persona. Social and personality development can be best understood as the closed encounter between social, biological and representational part of personality development.
The social context is the one in which child lives. Relationships that provide guidance, security and knowledge plays a majoe role in developing child's personality. The biological context provides support in developing the social and emotional competencies and helps in underlining the tempramental individuality. last but not the least is how the child develops representation of themselves and the social word and these three interact closely and helps in defining the peronality of the child.
