Describe five strategies for enhancing generalization of social skills and why those are important. Minimum of 3 paragraphs.
Generalization is the act of taking a particular behavioral reaction and applying it into another appropriate situation again, if necessary and required. Generalization helps in the functional behavior of an individual in a given social setting. Generalization can also be affiliated with the Emotional Quotient of an individual.
Generalization can be enhances in many ways, but, in my humble opinion, these five strategies are the best for enhancing generalization of social skills.
Observe. It is important to observe the behavior of others in certain situation, and it is vital to not only focus on their verbal aspect but also their non verbal body language to gauge an understanding of behavior in social setting. It is quite easy to learn by observing others.
Perspective. Sometimes we are stuck on reaction and cues that we have formed in social settings that might not be the most conducive, but this does not mean that we shut off from view that actually help in propelling the right action. It is important to help form right frameworks and be open to feedback.
Psychodrama. This helps in narrating incidents be way of enacting them, and people generally while acting out the pseudo scene get an inkling into a behavior that might be the most conducive. This can be done fro any age group.
Identify. It is important to identify which behaviors help in which situations and generalizing those behavior accordingly and appropriately.
Do. By doing and engaging we learn far more. Trial and error is the best teacher of skills.
