Social determinants of health refers to the factors like physical environment, social environment, socioeconomic status, educational background,support system,availability of the health care services and the degree of access in the environment that influences the health status of the people in the society.
Nurses are working closely with the society. Nurses must understand the circumstances in which the people live and work. Nurses are taking care of the individual,family and the entire community. Nurses must look all the component of the health and the living condiiton of the people to implement the health plan effectively.
Understanding the social determinants of health also helps nurses to understand the health inequalities existing in the community. This promotes nurses to relaize the imapct of cultural, language,educational status and economic status that determines the health status.
Primary health care refers to the provision of ambulatory or first contact personal health care services. The role of Primary health nurse includes health promotion, prevention of illness, antenatal and postnatal care, child health, elderly care, community development, research and development.
Principles of primary health care are accessibility - making sure the primary health care services are available and affordable equally to all people in the community irespective of age,gender,ethnicity. Health promotion - it helps to strenghten the socioeconomic condiitons to promote good health. Approproiate use of technology - to ensure effective and efficient delivery of health services. Intersectoral collaboration involving all government organizations and health professionals.
According to me the concept of health refers to a state of complete physical,mental and social wellbeing. A sound mind and a healthy heart helps the individual to lead an active life. There must be a hormonal relationship with our community and people surronding us.
