As Americans with our vast wealth and technology, we often stereotype hunter-gathers like the Bushmen as 'primitive'. But how long could you do it? No running water, no automobiles, and (gasp!) no cell phones! Most of the skills and things you currently have would be utterly useless living of the land. How do the Bushmen do it? What skills would you have learn to survive by hunting and gathereing?
With advent of society humans have become more dependent on technology for the survival. As a result of this dependence, primal survival skills of earlier humans have got diminished. In the current times, although so called developed human beings work for much more hours as compared to people form hunting and gathering societies. People had more leisure time and sleep time as compared to present human beings. Something which is important to learn from Bushmen is Subsistence.
Another interesting aspect of life from Bushmen is their ability to sustain in harshest environments like Kalahari Desert in Australia. These people from hunting and gathering societies were aware of the best use of available resources and thus they could manage residing in impossible terrains like Kalahari Desert.
Hunting and gathering societies also portray an important lesson on nomadic life and small community size. Nomadic life helped gatherers to sustain tough weather conditions and small group size has ensured proper distribution of available resources ensuring equilibrium between resources and consumers.
