Why must people with Type 1 Diabetes take insulin?
Their cells no longer respond to glucose levels in the blood
Their diet is too high in sugar and processed foods
Their immune system has destroyed the pancreas cells that produce insulin
Both A and C
Type-1 diabetes is a chronic disease where body's immune cells attack the insulin-producing beta cells of pancreas and destroy the beta cells in an auto-immune manner. This attacks leave the pancreas with no ability to produce insulin. So type-1 diabetes means insulin dependency for life where people have to insulin via injection. Due to the less or nil availability of insulin the cells no longer respond to glucose levels in blood. People can obtain glucose from food but can't get into the cell as the response have been gone and the glucose remains in blood.
So, option-A and option-C are correct.
Type-1 diabetes does not depend on the diet. It is an autoimmune disease. Type-2 diabetes depends on the diet and it is called lifestyle disease where an affected person develops insulin resistance.
So, option-B is not correct.
So, the correct alternative is option-D, "Both A and C".
