I have 4 year old child. I watch the cartoon show Motu Patlu with him. That cartoon is pretty famous in India. Even I used to watch many cartoons in my childhood, the cartoon was recently introduced. What I observe is cartoon in my childhood were more westernized?it wad lot of Americal cultural influence, including shows like Tom And Jerry or any super hero Cartoon. Obvisouly the names were western only. Today Indian's have their own super hero charachter and Indian kids prefer watching it over any other. Since these cartoons are have indian based themes, they also social or moral values of India. The content of the cartoon does not leads to any cognitive development. But kids get to know language or they have fun due to comic or herioc scenes which are seen in Motu Patlu.
Again there is no social development as such, but again since all kids watch it they discuss about it or play by being one of the charachter. I think that it worsens the emotional development of the child, the child becomes hyper active, he is fully engrossed in the cartoon world and is unware of what is happening around. Moreover though super hero cartoon becomes something very much role model for the person or it strengethn the imagination but it can be dangerous also.
