Major federal equal employment opportunity laws have attempted to correct social discrimination toward particular groups of workers, called protected classes. Defined broadly, these include individuals of a minority race, women, older people, and those with physical or mental disabilities. Separate federal laws cover each of these classes.

Review the timeline of the federal laws in the Content Area and read about each law. Choose one of the federal laws and briefly summarize it, include when it took effect, the implications of the law, protections under the law, and to whom it applies.

Then, from your unique perspective, what recommendations would you make for changing or improving that law to reflect the current workplace? Provide an example to support your recommendations. Respond to at least two other students with different federal law selections.

Social discrimination towards particular group of workers based on race, women, older people and those with physical or mental disabilities has bee talked about all over but complete removal of discrimination from the system has not happened.

The Equal Employment Opportunity Act of 1972 is the act which gives the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) authority to sue in federal courts when it finds reasonable cause to believe that there has been employment discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex or national origin.  

Equal employment practices are important for both individuals and organisations. On an individual basis, EEO accomplish many things. Further, an organisation that is EEO complaint decreases the chances of facing a discrimination or wrongful discharge lawsuit.  

Zero tolerance policy should be enforced in all organisations against any sort of discrimination at work place. The main reason to suggest zero tolerance policy is because if strict implementation of laws are not their, violators gain confidence in going against the law.

In a democracy, the people have to take responsibility for the implementation of laws against discrimination. Cannot wait for the authorities.

In 2020 an unfortunate incident has shocked the world. An African-American man George Floyd, 46 was killed after a white police officer kneeled on his neck as he gasped for breath till life left his body in Minneapolis on May 25. His death has triggered violent nationwide protests. Reactions has been pouring in from world over. No one in his senses would believe a descrimination of this sort has happened in the world's super power and world most powerful democracy.

Conclusion. It is true that major federal equal employment opportunity laws have attempted to correct social descrimination but have failed to ensure effectiveness of the laws. In a democracy, people have the right and also a responsibility towards the implementation of the laws. Starting from the President of the United States deep down to the common man, should stand for fairness in all opportunities and should inculcate a culture of zero tolerance policy against any violation.
