Question 1
i. Explain briefly with an example how customer complaints can
be a source of new product idea
ii. Using a phone’s battery to illustrate, explain briefly how the
mean time between failures (MTBF) can be used as a measure of a
product’s reliability
1. It is true that customer complaints could help to company to come up with better and innovative product ideas to help to solve the problem of the customer and also introduce a new product market in the market. For example, when people and customers were satisfied with Nike's shoes for better performance in the sports, many athletes weren't as satisfies with the shoes because of lack of grip while playing basketball. They need grip and sole with the news that would eventually help the atheletes to jump higher and run faster. To solve this customer problem, Nike came up with its innovative and new product idea of specialised Basketball shoes to ensure the atheletes are satisfied enough with the performance of the shoes which are especially made for NBC players for better grip and speed in basketball.
2. Mean time between failures or MTBF refers to the predicted mean time between the estimated or inherent failures for any electronic or mechanical system during a normal system operation. This MTBF could be calculated using the arithmetic mean or average time that lies between the failures of a system. For example taking a phone's battery as an example, this MTBF would calculate the time between the no. of failure that is occuring in the working of the same battery. The longer is the time of failures between two predicted time where the batteryy could run out, the better the reliability of the phone's battery would be. The shorter the time between two inherent eatimated failures, the less reliable the phone's battery would be.
