answer the following statements
a-What is the difference between a shoot and a stem and name the parts each consists of
b-Mention the two types of stems and one difference that distinguish them
Ans.(a)- Shoot is that part of the plant which lies above the soil originating from the plumule of seed whereas stem is the integral part(central axis) of plant which contains nodes(leaves arises from it) and internodes(space between two nodes).Infact stem itself comes under the shoot system.
Parts of shoot system:
>stems
>Leaves
>Flower
>Buds etc.
#usually it grows above ground
Parts of stem:
>Nodes
>Internodes
>Terminal or apical buds
>Lateral or axillary buds
>Pedicles
>Leaves
>Flowers
>Fruits etc.
#It helps in conduction of water and mineral nutrients in the plant.
Ans.(b)-Two types of stem:
>Woody
>Herbaceous
#Plants in which production of wood and structural tissue takes place and have a strong woody stem usually covered with bark and are longest plants mostly perennial in nature contains woody stem.Plants which have a flexible and non-woody green stem and also comparatively short in length and maybe annual, biennial or perennial are known as herbaceous plants containing harbaceous stem.
