How and to what extent does a diversity of perspective contribute to or distract from creativity and innovation in the workplace?
One thing that has brought this world to this technological era is creativity. Creativity is about looking ordinary things differently in order to create or discover something that would contribute oneself, the organisation for which one works and the society at large. This inquisitiveness and change in perspective is what is considered as one of assets in all the fields. Creativity is about doing things differently and in order to do things differently, one need to think out of the box and in order to think out of the box, one needs to have a different perspective. Narrow minded people won't be able to think out of the box.
Today's business revolves around Innovation because of the huge competition. Almost all the companies spend millions for R&D purposes. We could see new products or improvised products almost every day. Companies look for creative people and people who are innovative are looked after well by the employers because their ideas bring them business.
What are the managerial implications of your answer?
When we sit for a brainstorming, managers like people who contribute with their ideas more than people who don't share their views. Managers will be influenced by people who are innovative, so when it comes to promotion or benefits, they would definitely recommend people who are creative, innovative and contribute to the growth of the company.
