Heuristic approach - mental shortcuts that are learned from experience that are used to make decisions when person faces a complex problem.
Heuristic approach can be of following types-
1.Repesentativness heuristic- operates when we make decisions based on something similar to our existing shemas
2.Availability heuristic- operates when we make decisions on information that is available to us through our previous learning and knowledge.
Exampels- 1. Availability heuristic- when you see lot of crime serials on television where in common crimes of muder for money or roberry are often shown you start to assume that this can happen with you too n take a descision not to be alone at home at all.
Or when you see accident on expressways or hear about it ,you decide not to travel on express way based on available information ,as I decided today not to travel on express way.
Exampel of representative heuristic- when you have a schema of a maid or nanny in your mind and someone who resembels or represents a nanny you make a decision of appointing her for taking care of your child. Thus descision was made based on schema or representation in your mind.
