Carpometacarpal joint:

• movement:

1. The plane of palm of hand: Flexion, extension
2.    The plane at right angle to hand: Abduction , adduction
3.    circumduction and opposition

• muscles involved in bringing about movements: oblique opponens digit minimi muscle.
• proximal attachment: distal row of carpal bones.
• Distal attachment: proximal bases of five metacarpal bones.

Radiocarpal Joint:

• movement: flexion, extension, abduction, adduction
• muscles involved in bringing about movements:

1. flexion: flexor carpi ulnaris and flexor carpi radialis
2. extension : extensor carpi radialis longus, extensor carpi radialis brevis, and extensor carpi ulnaris muscles
3. adduction : extensor carpi ulnaris and flexor carpi ulnaris.
4. abduction :  abductor pollicis longus, flexor carpi radialis, extensor carpi radialis longus and extensor carpi radialis brevis.

• proximal attachment: distal radius
• Distal attachment: scaphoid , lunate bones and triquetral

Mid carpal Joint :

• movement: flexion , extension, adduction and abduction.
• muscles involved in bringing about movements:

1. flexion : flexor pollicis longus and brevis
2. extension :  abductor pollicis longus

• proximal attachment: scaphoid, lunate, and triquetral bones
• Distal attachment: trapezium, trapezoid, capitate, and hamate bones

Intercarpal Joint:

• movement: slight movement
• muscles involved in bringing about movements: movement is bring about interconnecting ligaments.
• proximal attachment: carpal bones of middle row
• Distal attachment: carpal bones of distal row.
