Describe two methods (and the technology behind them) that plants are transformed into genetically modified organisms.

Solutions

Expert Solution

Gentically modified plant have special characters. They have resistance to particular disease or pests or they can able to produce commercial vaulable product ( proteins.etc).

Different method are use to plant transformed into gentically modified organisms.plant transformation techniques are classified in to two indirect transformation method .in this vector are used to create gentically modified plants, that inculde Agrobacterium mediated gene transfer.

Direct gene transfer method : it invovle physical and chemical methods.

Micro injection

Using a glass pipette Foreign DNA ( gene of interest) injected in to living cell.

Electroporation

This is another techniques used for gene transformation. A electrical field apply to the cell that increase the permibilty of the cell. Cell placed in a electroporation buffer and electrical field appliyed and it increases the permibilty of the cell and the foreign DNA entered to the cell.

Gene gun is onther method used gene transfer.

Genetically modified organisms are not new. According to the USDA, in 2009, 93 percent of soy, 93 percent of cotton and 86 perfect of corn grown in the United States was GMO. However, in 2010, life on earth as we currently understand it, changed. By inserting computer-designed genetic material into a bacterial cell, scientist created an entirely new strain of bacteria, a new life form, the world's first synthetic cell. In annoucing his creation, scientist Craig Venter called if the...

Now days foods that we consume may contain genetically modified organisms, or GMOs. One of the plant sources which is regularly modified is corn and products that are derived from corn, like high fructose corn syrup. What other foods do you know or can you find through a simple search that may likely be a GMO? How do you feel about eating products that have been genetically modified? There are now packaging on products that are non-GMO. Would this persuade...

Suppose you have two strains of mice, S1 and S2. Strain S2 is genetically modified to metabolize a pharmacon P supposedly faster than S1. You conducted an experiment in a sample set of each strain, in which the pharmacon was injected and its concentration in blood was measured every 15min for 2h. Of course, age, gender, and weight was recorded for each animal. You want to statistically demonstrate that the metabolic rate of N is higher in S2 than S1....
