1. Why is the control of gene expression more complex in eukaryotes than in prokaryotes?
2. Where does translation occur? How can translation be controlled in eukaryotic cells?
Ans 1) Gene Expression of eukaryotes are more complex than
prokaryotes as in eukaryotes, the two processes in which the gene
is expressed that is transcription and translation takes place
differently. Also, the eukaryotes have the ability to regulate the
expression of gene at various levels.
In Eukaryotes, the expression of gene is regulated by activators
and repressors. Eukaryotes repressor will bind to the operator
region and will inhibit or stop the process of transcription.
Ans 2) Translation is the process of synthesis of protein from the mRNA template. It occurs in cytoplasm of cell. Proteins control the process of translation. Translation initiation complex is formed when the complex will bind to the start codon. In eukaryotes, when there is binding of initiator methionyl tRNA that is met-tRNA to the smaller subunit of ribosome that is 40s subunit and the process of translation is inititated.
