A few of my squads have captured 35 men. Some soldiers, some peasants, some local, some foreign. The fool I call my Lieutenant has taken their armor and now I have no way of identifying who is who. I need to make the right people talk. Here is what I know,” -

35 total men have been taken, prisoner

23 are soldiers, the rest are peasants

9 of the men are from Temeria

16 of the men are from Cintra

There is only 1 peasant from Redania

7 of the soldiers are from Cintra

A: What is the probability that a randomly selected prisoner is from Redania? (Four: decimals)

B: What is the probability that a randomly selected prisoner is a peasant? (Four decimal places)

C: What is the probability that a randomly selected prisoner is either a peasant, or from Cintra? (Four decimal places)

D: What is the probability that a randomly selected prisoner is a Temerian soldier? (Four decimal places)

E: What is the probability that a randomly selected prisoner is from Redania, given it is a soldier? (Four decimal places)

Solutions

Expert Solution

A: probability that a randomly selected prisoner is from Redania

total men from redania = 35 - men from temeria - men form cintra

= 35-9-16

= 10

P(randomly selected prisoner is from Redania) = (prisoners from Redania)/total prisoners

= 10/35

B: probability that a randomly selected prisoner is a peasant

no. of peasants = 35 - no. of soldiers = 35-23 = 12

P(randomly selected prisoner is a peasant) = (prisoners that are peasants)/total prisoners

= 12/35

C: probability that a randomly selected prisoner is either a peasant, or from Cintra

no. of men that are peasant or from cintra = no. of peasant + no. of soldier from cintra

= 12+7 = 19

P(randomly selected prisoner is either a peasant, or from Cintra)

= (no. of men that are peasant or from cintra)/total prisoners

= 19/35

D: probability that a randomly selected prisoner is a Temerian soldier

no. of temerian soldier = no. of soldier - no. of soldier from cintra - no. of soldier from redania

= 23 - 7 - (10-1)

= 7

P(randomly selected prisoner is a Temerian soldier)

= no. of temerian soldier / total prisoners

= 7 /35

= 1/5

= 0.20

E: probability that a randomly selected prisoner is from Redania, given it is a soldier

P(redania | soldier) = no. of redanian soldier / no. of soldier

= (10-1)/23

= 9/23

I have a few questions from a lab experiment that my class has done for Acid-Base Titrations. Objective: To use titration to determine in Part 1, the concentration (molarity) of an unknown acid solution and in Part 2, the purity of a sample of KHP acid. Background: Titration is a volumetric technique used to determine the concentrations of solutions, molar masses of solids, and purity of samples. A titration inolves the addition of a titrant (a solution of known concentration)...

Some studies suggest that women have their first baby at age 35 or older are at increased risk of having a baby with low birth weight. A researcher chose a random sample of 125 women age 35 or older who were pregnant with their first child and followed them through the pregnancy. The mean weight of the 125 newborns was 3111.4 grams with a standard deviation of 501.3 grams. Is there evidence to suggest low birth weight for newborns who...

I have done some of this on my own but just cant seem to be able to finish this correctly. Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) is a technique for measuring bone health. One of the most common measures is total body bone mineral content (TBBMC). A highly skilled operator is required to take the measurements. Recently, a new DXA machine was purchased by a research lab, and two operators were trained to take the measurements. TBBMC for eight subjects was measured...
