The main aim of sustainable city is to make the city breathe fresh. The involvement of stake holders can make the dream sustainable engineering success. Here I am choosing a soci-economic and environment problem of Kuttanad region located in Kerala.Kuttanad is a small area which is known for it's natural beauty and also it is an establishment of farmers. In that area people depend on farming and livestock to achieve there day to day needs.

In 2018,during monsoon the whole region was swallowed by high flood. The people leaving there lost their home, vehicle, cultivation, land etc.And the people moved outside of the flooded region to escape and secure their family. They losed all their home, vehicles, dresses, wealth, crops etc.

By thinking about a safe sustainable solution for the people of Kuttanad area to secure their living on badtimes I have a technology ie "CONTAINER HOMES" .

What is container home?

The house which is built using the container, which is made from the used containers, therefore it is economic. As the container homes are made of steel there is no usage of cement, sand, aggregate, mortar, brick etc therefore the overall estimated price and the risk of collision of cement fabricated buildings and allergies produced from it can be reduced.Green engineering is adopted here.Stationary or moving container homes can be made.Any number of floors can be made using this containers. The total height of the foundation is estimated to be at the level of highest flood level marked in 2018.

Inside of the container homes have living rooms, kitchen, bed room, bathroom etc which are partitioned by sheets made of bamboo woods and green climbers ,windows and doors are faced in direction where sunlight and wind circulates. The roof of container homes have weather insulating sheets and above that green ground covering plants like mazus above a layer of soil coarse and drip irrigation with valve control is fixed to water the plants (water for irrigation is equipped from water collected during rain ie roof top rainwater harvesting done on half portion otherwise treatment of kitchen waste water)it enhances green engineering and pollution free ecosystem and also protect the house from too much heat and cold.

The shear, bending, torsion etc of containers are checked and selected the best having particular factor of safety.

(Refer container homes to get additional information)

People can live safe and securely during the hard weather in those houses. It is durable, adaptable, economic, robust, high quality, protection from weather, animals etc.
