The stereotype looks that affects a lot and is the focus here for me personally is gender stereotype. It is such a strong factor which affects the way a perspective is viewed or the voice is heard. For example there are several reports carried in the newspaper about the focus on clothing for young girls. There isn't any cry about boys when they are also students and they do not have to necessarily follow a strict dress code and even when they do it considered a part of the school requirement. While lot of young girls are told that they are a distraction to the boys if the dress up in a particularly way; something as simple as spaghetti straps banned in few schools. This is a good example of how gender comes into play and the bodies of young girls are sexualized. There is impact of gender stereotype of the self concept of students in school and their academic achievement. The article by Igbo and Obiyo focuses on the influence of gender stereotype as a necessary factor for self concept of students and their achievement. The research points out that students seek for validation in classrooms and when the perception or view to look at young girls in the class changes then it affects their academic achievement. The article also points out that there is favour given to male students and the voices of male students are heard more than female students. The gender stereotypes and labeling of terms like bossy, over ambitious does not help in the growth of girls as humans
