List the 5 basal ganglia. Indicate which are located in the cerebral hemispheres, which in the diencephalon, and which in the midbrain.
Ganglia: It is a structure of our brain. It is a circuit type organ where one neuron enters and another neuron leaves.
Basal ganglia: It literally means the organ that resides deep inside our brain. It performs variety of function such as emotion, control movement , motor control etc. The damage of basal ganglia leads to parkinson disease.
Basal ganglia is not a single structure rather it is composed of 5 different structure fused together viz. , Caudate , putamen , Globus pallidus , Substantia Nigra, and Subthalamic nucleus.
Caudate , putamen and Globus pallidus these three parts of basal ganglia are located in the cerebrum hemispheres. Caudate is the S shaped structure that helps in learning. Globus pallidus rgulate the movements where as putamen helps in both learning and movement.
Substantial Nigra is resided in the midbrain. Human nature is reward seeking and this nature is developed by this region.
Subthalamic nucleus is situated in the diencephalon. It act as a neurotransmitter joinind the Globus pallidus and substantial nigra.
