Are there more words in the English language
How do you calculate these statistical hypothesis?
Statistical Hypothesis is formulated such that the null hypothesis asserts a statement which is generally accepted with respect to the context it is being asserted in and the alternative hypothesis negates that statement. Based on some assumptions and evidences we either accept or reject the null hypothesis with a certain level of probabilistic significance.
Here, if we assumed that the null hypothesis to be,
H 0 : The number of words in English Language that start with ''r'' is greater than the no of words for which ''r'' is the third letter. vs. the alternative hypothesis
H 1 : The number of words in English Language that start with ''r'' is not greater than the no of words for which ''r'' is the third letter.
But here the testing problem is not probabilistic rather deterministic since the actual number of these could be calculated and compared, to give an answer to this question in a deterministic (certain) way. So, although one can formulate the hypothesis for the testing problem but it would be a deterministic test not a statistical or probabilistic one.
