CAREER PLAN
Just like me, everyone has something in their mind in terms of professional growth, the duration can be small or big depending upon the need and urgency to gain particular skill. If you see closely all the small duration goals finally leads to the ultimate milestone. Before I discuss my career progression plan, let us see an equation that completely applies in my case.
Career Succession plan = Sum of [(small tasks + allocated time) - any deviation]
Working in an IT firm as a Business Consultant is one of the toughest tasks. Well everyone will say the same statement for their work, but in genuine you will start believing me once I portray my roles and responsibilities. Actually, I have to illustrate them so as to drive to the final conclusion as per the title of the discussion.
I have to attend a minimum of 2 client meetings which is a daily task, updating them on every issue and keep a track of the discussion. In addition to this, I have to document some business/technical project documents like BRD/FRD/FRS or I have to update them. The business discussion in terms of the project has to explain to the team of developers. Interacting with the development team is again a daily task, in addition to this MOM, presentations, Use cases, User Stories, Wireframes are kind of guest work which could come any moment of time with specified work deadline.
The above statements are cent percent true, this could be possible with my learning attitude. I was the one who was not able to modify a table into MS Word 5 years back (i am a mechanical graduate). It is not an excuse but sheer hard work of mine with a learning attitude that has taken care of all the challenges that came my way. I am able to manage these tasks, this feeling makes me confident and aware of the challenges that could arise at any moment of time. Yes, the present IT industry is full of challenges as with every passing day a new technology hits the market. You have to keep yourself motivated and manage time for new skills.
These details were mentioned to serve two specific purposes, one to know what I was 5 years back and secondly that in this time period I have learned several tools and skills like MS Office suite, Multiple testing platforms, few design applications, some analytics tools, and MS Project. Moving forward I have a similar mindset and I have to grasp a couple of new skills which are discussed below -
Interest - I feel dedicated to any sort of design work starting from a business presentation to product mockup, I am working towards it by attending virtual weekends classes, watching You-Tube tutorials, discussing with the design team. I want to prepare myself in this segment, the reason is obvious for any project apart fro the consultant there is a team of designers. If I learn this skill I will be in a better position to understand the client requirement, as I gather it, and if I have the relevant skills I can even do the deigning part and send it to the developers. Also, I might be valuable to my future employers if they see my CV.
Ability - thanks to my learning attitude, there is a sense of awareness in me all the time. Any new skill takes time and effort to master, which is taken care of by my learning attitude. This creates your ability.
Values - to take your work responsibility and deliver quality work just because you are hired and getting paid for being genuine to your work and company.
Skills and personality - silent, speak only when it is needed, focus on your personal goals.
In the near future, I have prepared a complete action list of how to learn a new Automation tool, since RPA is constantly blooming I have to acquire a new skill latest by 2 years from now. I have done the diploma course for one of the crucial RPA tools which is UI-PATH and now working towards a more advanced course. The tool is made free by the company, and all a person needs is to have a learning attitude as tutorial lectures are available on You_tube.
