Crotalin is a neurotoxin injected by rattlesnakes into their victims. It affects the parasympathetic nervous system causing precapillary sphincters to relax. What effect would this have on the capillary bed haemodynamics?

Solutions

Expert Solution

Answer- The precapillary spinchter plays an important role in efficient transport of blood to various body tissues. These sphinters are important in directing blood to the tissues that need it the most, and reducing the flow to inactive tissues. The abnormal relaxation of these spinchters will impair normal blood supply to tissues.

Therefore due action of this neurotoxin, the blood flow will never occur properly because blood flow will occur equally in all areas which leads to decrease in overall pressure of blood and highly working tissues will get less supply of oxygen and nutrients which may lead to their damage.
