What are the names of the stem cell niche in leaves and roots, and when during plant development are they first formed?
Answer
Plant stem cells are the undifferentiated cells that are found in the meristem of the plants and provides the precursor cells that gets further differentiated into particular cell type that forms specialized tissues and organs. Unlike stem cells of the animal cells these plant stem cells are immobile. Stem cells niche are found in shoot, root and vascular mersitems.
Two areas where plant stem cells are present are:
As plants cannot move from one position to other positions like animal cells. So, to withstand the environmental stress stem cells plays a pivotal role.
Plants can undergoes both types of reproduction : sexual and asexual reproduction. When plants want to maintain the stable genetic factors then plants choose to undergo asexual reproduction instead of sexual reproduction. This development in plants causes the generation of many stem cells that have cell division ability. Stem cells are distributed at various places of plant cells where they helps in tip growth, lateral growth and intercalary growth.
