Given the following equation: if 25.4g of Al2O3 is reacted with 10.2g of Fe, determine the limiting reagent.

Solutions

Expert Solution

answer; : limiting reagent Fe

Al2O3    +   Fe -----------------------> Fe2O3 + 2 Al

102          55.84                                159.6          54

25.4 g        10.2 g

102 g Al2O3 react with 55.84g Fe

25.4 g Al2O3 react with = 55.84 x 25.4/102

                                       = 13.9g Fe

actually for 25.4 g of Al2O3 react with 13.9g Fe. but we have Fe only 10.2g.

so the product amount formed decided by Fe amount.

hence limiting reagent : Fe
