how has radio impacted society both practically and theoretically?
Within 95 years radio has modified the world nothing that came before it. It has changed the way we communicate with each other, how we share and promote our thoughts, opinions and creations ; sometimes we feel like, radio is our companion: loyal and enlightening, ever prepared to share music with you or give you the latest headlines.
But before it was an everyday household item, before it was a diverse multi-frequency platform for communicating and advertising products to consumers around the world, before it became everybody’s ready and willing roadtrip partner, radio technology was simply a spectrum, a myriad almost purely theoretical frequencies that science believed could be utilised for faster and more convenient communication.
Science was right of course, and the world hasn’t been the same since. It’s almost a kind of magic if you think about it.
Radio evolved into a steadfast means of communication for ship captains, law enforcement, pilots, truck drivers, emergency services and many more. later it developed into a vibrant addition to households.
“radio became an invaluable means of communication” :
During World War II, radio became an invaluable means of
communicating breaking developments on the warfront, people around
the world would sit beside their home radios and await the news
with bated breath. Radio was even used to broadcast information to
the underground resistance movements in France, Belgium and Denmark
in the ‘40s.
Radio changed the world in many ways (countless) — the most important being the rapid sharing of information. In such a way that radio was almost a foreshadowing of the Internet technologies that followed.
