Imagin you are a student who took microbiology in a semester. how you explain that
What did you learn from your microbiology experiences in this semester that will continue to influence you for many years to come? How did you learn these things?
Using specific examples for your statement Such as PPE, Gram stain, HMB, sensitive to penicillin, etc.
PPE: PPE stands for Personal Protective Equipment. PPE includes aprons to be worn while performing experiments at a microbiology lab to prevent spoilage of clothes and skin on exposure to harmful chemicals. Also, heat resistant gloves are to be worn while carrying autoclaved materials. Disposable sterile gloves are to be worn while performing innoculating experiments with micro-organisms. Masked to be also placed over nose and mouth in case there is an risk of exposure to infectious agents.
Gram Staining: It is one of the most important procedures in microbiology. It was developed by Christian Gram in 1884. This is a differential staining procedure whch is used for the separation of bacteria on the basis of the differences in their cell wall composition. The sampe of microbes are taken, fixed on a slide, stained with crystal violet. This is followed by iodine treatment and counter staining with safranin.Gram positive bacteria because of their thicker cell wall retains the stain of crystal violet and stains purple. On the other hand, gram negative bacteria have a thin layer of peptidoglycan. So, the crystal violet stain is washed off and they take up the counter stain i.e safranin and stain pink.
HMB: HMB stands for Host Microbe Biology. It essentially takes into account the phages, the resolution on evolution so far, the estabhlishment of bacteria within the host. HMB has essentially 18 sub tracks covering a wide variety of topics from animal biology, toxins, regulatory factors of virulence, microbe plant interactions etc.
Sensitive to penicillin: The sensitivity to pencillin can be commonly referred to as penicillin allergy. It can be defined as the abnormal reaction of the immune system to the drug penicillin. The signs and symptoms of penicillin includes skin rash, hives, itching, fever, runny nose etc. It may also cause widespread destruction of body systems. The immune system becomes hypersenstitive to the drug. It is essentially mistaken by the body as a harmful substance, as if it is a bacterial or viral infection.
