Choose your topics you are considering carefully: In two weeks you must choose your topic, and once selected and approved by your instructor, you cannot change your Paper 4 topic. Turning in a paper on any other topic will result in a score of zero. Remember you cannot write your research paper (P3) on any of the following topics: abortion, marijuana, any other recreational drug, alcohol, same sex marriage/civil rights, piercing, tattooing, eating disorders, body image, racism, or any religious doctrine or theological idea. These topics are off limits because they have a) been written about to the point of absurdity and b) this class is geared toward professional publication in your major/career. Choose a topic that is less about your opinions of the world in which you live, and more about a topic in your field that requires research, reading, and learning that will make you more effective in your chosen career.
Here I am mentioning some key research areas for electronics engineering:
1)Image Processing
Image processing plays a key role in today's technology.It gives a computer ablelity to see the external world.By this Computer would be ablerecognizenise anything in the external world. For example if camera see a photo of a person then computwould process that video and could tell who is the person is.For image processing research has started a long ago. But beacuse of less processing capacity of computer it was not able to process videos.But now the capacatiy of computer has increased thay are now able to process 4K videos also. Key role in imageprocessing is the implimentation of algorithm and design of algorithm. Algorithm should be done in such a way thay the time complexity would be less.
There are many theories regarding imageprocessing ,For a PHD student Imageprocessing colud be a thesis.. But measure thing now a days is to understand the concepts of imageprocessing and design a algorithm.There are some opensources where most efficient functions are already written, Language such as Python,Matlab.Any person can use them to do basic projects related to imageprocessing. But for research approach one have to go through all theory of Imageprocessing and have to make his functions of his own.
In recent days imageprocessing and machinelearning are combined together for developing technology. Such as Face recognition,Qr Code scan,fingerprint scan etc.One day will come when by this technology computer would become somuch efficient that they would be able to recognise any person from satellite itself.
2)IOT(Internet Of things)
Iot could be another majour field of research for an electronics and electrical engineer. It is the area where both software and hardware are combinedly used to make peoples day to day life easier.IOT includes study of server,database,cloud computing,webpage making,and connection of hardware.By this technology we can have data from anywhere in the world with just one click.It is named so because the things or equipments will be directly be connected to internet.Few years before it was not so popular but now the speed and connection of internet has increased exponentially so more number of device could now connect to internet.
Basic concept of IOT is that we have sensors all around the world we have to collect data from them send the data to server store the data in database in an efficient manner and again show the data to the observer whenever required. There are some availabel devices in market Like Esp module and for database msql and PHP by knowing these things we can do any project related to IOT.
For research point of view we have to go deep inside it First we have to study cloud computing. Database management system. Do signal processing in the transmitter and receiver side. then we can make an efficient IOT system. Lots of Industries are now combining IOT technology with their gadgets.
DIGITAL SIGNAL PROCESSING
Digital signal processing is the core electronics engineering. Where the signals in discrete form are processed to increase the efficiency. Todays communication technology is completely based on digital signal processing.Because of it high datatransfer rate is possible now.Before digital signal there was analog signal transmission which has many disadvantages like transmission rate is low and Noisy transmission. So then new technology discrete signal came into picture.
In Digital signal case first analog signal is sampled with some frequency then that sampled signal is transmitted.What happens actually the Fourier series and fourier transfer becomes easier in discrete domain.and then the convolution in time domain becomes multiplication in frequency domain.So processing a signal in discrete becomes much easier by watching the transfer function we can say the output by using the softwares. Noise Timedelay all these could Estimated by processing a signal by convolution and correlation techniques.
For research purpose one have to go deep inside Fourier series fourier transform Z transform.Many research have already done on this DSP .We have to solve complex equations in software Like matlab.This Topis is completely based on claculations and theory basis one have to solve equations to get the system response.
Majour research area of it is in RADAR technology,Sonar,All mobile equipments use it.One will be able to design a signalprocessing unit of a radar by research on it.
I am suggesting 3 topics which according to me are very important loking towards future. You can also do research on Electonics Chips like Opamp,Sensors,Advance instrumentation devices. etc
