Although there is an Act to control and prevent Corruption in Jamaica, there are still evidence of high level endemic corruption and ranked 83 out of 176 countries according to Global Corruption Perception Index 2012. One might wonder on to the driving force and also the effects of corruption in the region.

There are number of reasons that contributes to corruption in the reason.

1. Although there is an Act, the law enforcement body are working for their personal gain linking with high officials. This implies poor judicial system.

2. The political party in the country has high handedness. The power of their status and money over-powered.

3. There is also a lack of transparency in the system which motivates the official to corrupt.

4. The public were not able to raise the issue as it is bind with the system.

5. Lack of accountability and transparency in the Department of Customs.

The effects of Corruption touches different parameters of development which delimits their potentials in social, economic, political and personal well-being. There are some points that we can discuss;

1. Corruption limit the rights of an individual/ groups/... There is a high handedness by the politicians/ bureaucrats and their voices are shut.

2. Increase in crime rate and intolerance in the nation.

3. It hamper their economic growth.

4. It effects the business environment within and with other nation.

5. Negative perception to the Judicial system and law enforcement body by general public.
