Provide an example of a properly constructed problem statement or a poorly constructed problem statement. Explain why the statement you provided is either properly written or poorly written.

Solutions

Expert Solution

A problem statement is a short and simple way to describe a problem and then propose a solution to the problem. A good problem statements is an effective way to define any issue and communicate a solution within less time.

Example of a good problem statement

Dust bin overfill has been a serious problem facing our city waste facilities for the last decade. On average our city dumps are 30% above capacity which creates an unsanitary and unsafe, and unwise place for our city to be in.Several methods to deal with this are building two new landfills on the county outskirts and stronger recycling campaigns and larger per-bag waste disposal costs as a way to lessen the potential damage of our trash situation. Action is needed if our city is to remain the clean, safe place to live it has always been.

The above problem is a good example because it contains a problem and a solution to the problem in a short concise manner.

The waste disposal system in our city is bad with waste baskets overflowing everywhere and nobody is doing anything about it, on average 30% city dumps are above capacity therefore leading to an urgent problem which should be dealt with as soon as possible.

The above problem is a bad example because it does not contain any solution just the problem

You are using a poorly constructed 4-bit natural binary-coded absolute encoder and observe that, as the encoder rotates through the single step from code 3 to code 4, the encoder outputs several different and erroneous values.
