Research and provide an example of how race is socially constructed in a culture outside of the United States.

Expert Solution

It is important to understand how important aspects of 'identity' like race are often socially constructed on an everyday basis. This is usually done because it feeds on to the racial hierarchy that the society has inherited. This categorization of one race as being 'superior' than the other tends to have many short term as well as long term consequences on the lives of individuals.

Race is a sociological contruction and does not have a lot to do with the biology of the individual. This is because the social standing and the designation of a race also changes with cultures and also over time and this would only happen if it were a societal construction instead of being a biological one. Otherwise, it would become difficult to explain how a black individual becomes 'inferior' in a certain part of the country and is otherwise much like anyone else in other part. This is a clear indication of the fact that race is a societal construction and it is constructed on an everyday basis.
