Critical thinking is a method of thinking-based on any subject,content or problem in which the thinker (nurses) improves their quality of thinking by skillfully analyzing, assessing and reconstructing it. It mainly involves effective communication and problem solving abilities,

Critical thinking is deeply rooted in nurses everydays routine.As a nurse she need to take best decision in patient care and thus improves patients outcomes. Identifying problems,determining the best solution and choose the effective method are the various steps in critical thinking process.

Techniques of critical thinking:

  1. clarify: try to convey one point at time
  2. Accurate:check the facts before discuss
  3. Precise: it should be exact
  4. relavent: be always stick to the ideas or main point
  5. know the purpose
  6. identify assumptions
  7. know the biases
  8. be independent
  9. empathy

Approaches of critical thinking:

it can be break in to 3 groups

1. direct approach : in this method, it helps the student nurses to learn from their own conscious and carefully create strategies for reasoning, problem solving and critical thinking

2. indirect approach : help them to teach thinking through practise and exercise

3. metacognition: helps to increase students understanding oftheir own and others thinking
