Which of the perspectives/ theories of industrial relations is the current employment relations practice in Ghana modelled after? Discuss your response.
The structure of trade and employment system has changed and is continuously changing in Ghana. Since the year 1958, private companies must have licensed trade unions to continue the company's trade operations. Moreover, in current conditions, the companies must adopt for arbitration rather than the court proceedings. Arbitration is a type of alternative dispute redressal, which is basically out of the court solution. The companies and stakeholders in Ghana unanimously protest or support a particular concern to depict their teamwork and spirit. The countries in Africa tend to adopt the old practices of Europe and other developed countries. However, the country's spokesmen and businessmen mention that their problems and concerns are different from other countries. There is no capitalism in the country to enhance economic development. The capitalist economy only focuses on the profits, and not the social benefit. The country uses a mixed economy pattern to depict the clear intentions of the enterprises. The companies take appropriate measures to support the trade unions and to develop the operations in the company. Hence, the main motive of today's industrial relations in the country is merely to focus on profits as well as social cause to support the society. The relationship between employees and their managers also plays a vital role in the development of the country. Hence, the industrial relationships are crucial in a country.
