n Piaget 's four stages of cognitive development, if the child is exposed to a dysfunctional family dynamic/addicted parents, how does this effect EACH of the four stages of cognitive delvleopment...I am assuming that the child will begin to progressivly develop maladaptive behavior?

Solutions

Expert Solution

When a child is exposed to a dysfunctional family with dynamic or addictive parents ,the learning, cognitive development and moral development of each stage will be adversely affected and be delayed.

The mental model of the world in the child will be formed in a negative manner. Observing the parents, their tensions, distress and stress ,and experiencing them right from the sensorimotor stage, the language and symbolic interpretation will be faulty,s/he will learn the way the parents address the world around them. The schemas formed during the stages of preoperational stages and their adaptations, assimilation will be faulty leading to maladaptive behaviors. The child will be more egocentric, the values of kindness and altruism will have a stunted progress.

Acquisition of conservation laws will be delayed in child,s/he will find difficulty in thinking abstractly during the adolescence stage. Thus, the child will lag in acquisition of milestones of each stage of development and this delay will cause a faulty conception of world around him/ her accompanied by maladaptive coping techniques.
