In: Statistics and Probability
Forty randomly selected people were asked the number of people living in their home. Let X = the
number of people living in one home. The results are as follows:
x | frequency | relative frequency |
1 | 2 | |
2 | 5 | |
3 | 8 | |
4 | 12 | |
5 | 12 | |
6 | 0 | |
7 | 1 |
Complete the frequency table.
Find the sample mean ?
c. Find the sample standard deviation, s. What does this tell us about the data?
d. Construct a histogram of the data. Be sure to label your axes.
e. Construct a box plot of the data. Identify all important parts.
What percent of the people that have at least 5 people living in their home?
Find the 40th percentile.
Complete table:
Sample mean:
(c):Sample standard deviation:
Using Emperical rule, This means that 68% of the people living in one home between 1.84 and 6.16 from 1 standard deviation.
(d): Histogram using Frequency:
Histogram using Relative frequency:
(e): Boxplot:
Use Five number of summary of boxplot:
Min = 1
First Quartile = 2.5
Second Quartile = 4
Third Quartile = 5.5
Max = 7
40th percentile of data:
First arrange the data and our data already arrange in ascending order.
a = ((p / 100) * n), where p = 40 and n = 7
a= (40 / 100) * 7 = 2.8
a value change into whole number which is 3, now see 3rd position value in data that is 3.
So, 40th percentile is 3.
