How does quantum mechanics resolve the collapsing atom paradox?
More than one selection may be correct.
The energy of electrons in atoms are restricted to certain values. |
The energy of electrons in atoms are not restricted to certain values. |
Quantum mechanics does not exist. |
None of these. |
Collapsing atom paradox :
1) Quantum mechanics that governs the universe related law states that electrons revvolves round the nucleus.
2) Revolving electrons would give of electromagnetic energy due to acceleration so rapidly that their orbit would deecay in less than a bilionth of a second.
3) The quantum mechanics applicable for universe makes this impossible which is in contrast to the above mentioned view.
4) Hence it can be said that electrons are not actually circulating round the nucleus but they are in fixeed energy states called as orbitals (don't confuse it with orbit). DIfferent orbitals have different probabilities for the location of the electrons with specific radius and angle.
5) Hence it's a wrong concept that electrns are moving around nuclus in an orbit round the nuclues.
Answe option a) The enrgy of electrons in atoms are restricted to certain values. Suits the above explanation.
