  • Telomere shortening can be due to oxidative stress in prokaryotes. This end replication problem can be resolved by having circular DNA molecules as chromosomes. In the replication of DNA in prokaryotes the circular chromosomes leading stand continues to grow on 5'-3' direction. As it grows, the 3' is joined to the 5' end of lagging strand which then comes from the another direction. The 3' OH end of leading strand which comes in the opposite direction replaces the RNA primer of the last Okazaki Fragment present in the lagging strand.
