chapter 3
Japan has got the longest life expectancy compared to other countries in the world. They rank as one of the top performing healthcare systems.
Some of the healthcare policies in Japan are as follows:
1. Maintaining strong health outcomes despite the rapidly ageing population
2.Strengthening primary healthcare and coordinating care
3. Promoting healthy lifestyle and earlier diagnosis
4. Increasing efficiency in the hospital sector
5. Ensuring financial security
With all the above healthcare policies, Japan stands as the only country which has one of the best policies because it's statutory health insurance system provides a universal coversage. This means the public health insurance covers health insurance for people in all age groups. The US doesn't have such facilities.
The benefits include, the hospital, primary, specialty, mental health care and even the prescription drugs. In addition to premiums, citizens pay 30% coinsurance for most of the services provided and also some copayments.
Generally, Japan's healthcare expenditure is very nominal compared to the US and rest of the countries in the world. This is the reason they are exceptional. People in Japan are healthier and happier compared to the US. Therefore if US follows some of their guidelines and policies, they may be able to improve their healthcare systems.
