A germ cell divides to give rise to two daughter cells. Each of the two daughter cells then divides to give rise to two daughter cells. Is the genetic information found in two daughter cells that arose from a cell that went through the second division, identical? Explain your answer.
Ans- Yes the genetic information found in two daughter cells that arose from a cell that went through the second division will be identical because germ cell undergoes the process the process of meiosis, which is further divided into meiosis I and meiosis II. Meiosis I is reduction division (chromosome number reduces to half) , during meiosis I, homologous chromosomes (non sister chromatids) gets segregated ( Homologous chromosomes are the chromosomes having same set genes in same order but alleles may or may not be same) . As a result two daughter cells produced after first division will be similar but not identical because alleles may not be necessarily the same but meiosis II is equational division in which sister chromatids gets segregated, which are identical in nature or exactly the same DNA molecule , which was duplicated during S phase , so as a result the daughter cells produced as from second division are identical in nature.
