What are some of the properties of the lymphatic system?
Some properties of the lymphatic system:
1. Lymphatic system links the closed circulatory system and the interstitial space. The leftover capillary fluid that isn't reabsorbed back through the membrane is taken by the lymphatic system.
2. Lymphatic organs, primary and secondary, are involved in body defence.
3. Lymphatic vessels are present in every organ of the body except in the brain and cornea of the eye.
4. The lymphatic vessels absorb leftover plasma in addition to proteins and fats and organic and inorganic material from degrading cells of body organs from the interstitial space. These contents constitute the lymph.
5. Multiple local lymphatic capillaries merge forming afferant vessels which move to lymph nodes.
6. Lymph nodes give rise to efferent lymphatic vessels. Different efferent lymphatic vessels merge forming lymphatic trunks. Merging lymphatic trunks form collecting ducts. There are two main collecting ducts.
Lymphatic system consists of an elaborate network that is spread almost throughout the body performing many important functions.
