Nylon (C12H22N2O2) burns in pure oxygen. What is the equivalence ratio? What is the coefficients to the actual reaction ?
The actual chemical reaction for the given burning condition is C12H22N2O2+V1*O2 -> V2*CO2+V3*H2O+V4*HCN
C12H22N2O2+V1*O2 -> V2*CO2+V3*H2O+V4*HCN
The reaction will be
C12H22N2O2 + 15 O2 ----> 10 CO2 + 10 H2O + 2 HCN (Balanced Reaction)
The equivalence ratio = the mass ratio of air to fuel present in a combustion process
mass of air = 15* 32 + 10*(44) =920 grams
mass of Nylon = 1* 226 = 226 grams
Therefore Equivalence ratio = mass of air / mass of fuel = 920/226 = 4.07 :1
