For your second paragraph, see the cellular organelle assigned to you according to your name in the table below. Answer the following questions for your assigned organelle or cellular structure (my assigned cellular organelle is Ribosome) What is the main function of your cellular organelle? What types of cells in the human body contain large amounts of your organelle? If your organelle was damaged, what cellular process would be disrupted? What might happen to the cell as a consequence of damage to your organelle and disruption of that cellular process? Come up with an analogy for your organelle to relate its function to something in real life. Explain the reasoning behind your analogy. For example, DNA might be considered a recipe book, since it contains the instructions to make all the components of cells.
Cellular organelle - Ribosome
1) Function - Main function of the ribosomal structures in a cell is to synthesize proteins. They help in decoding the protein structures that are transported by the other organelles and also produce new proteins using the codes.
2) Large amount of ribosomes are found in almost all the cells of the human body specifically in the cytoplasm and the endoplasmic reticulum of the cells. Ribosomes are found more in cells that produce proteins and hormones because these are made using decoding of the peptide bonds.
3) If the ribosomes were damaged, there would be no protein synthesis and no RNAs will be formed and neither will any kind of protein will be formed.
4) No protein formation will lead to accumulation of damaged proteins that will carry out irregular functions and this can lead to anemia or even genetic disorders or cancer.
5) Like DNA is a recipe book that tells how to create a product, ribosomes are kind of kitchen where the requirements of the product formation is made . The ribosomes take up the genetic code and create proteins that are then processed and many different types of proteins are formed. These proteins are then used by the other machineries in order to carry out various functions. The DNA replication requires a lot of proteins that serve to make a daughter DNA. All these proteins are made by the ribosomes.
