QUESTION 5

Based on its function, which organelle would you expect to see in larger amounts in a macrophage compared to a skin cell

nucleus

mitochondria

lysosome

RER

Solutions

Expert Solution

Each cell has nucleus which maintain the main function of the cell. Mitrochondria which provides the energy, RER which help in protein synthesis.

But each cell donot has the lysosome. Macrophages main function is to engulf the foreign particles and digests that. Thus it play an important role. The nucleus of a macrophage is much more larger than any other cell.

Hence macrophage need to digest the foreign particle it has lysosome in abundant quantity.

Skin cell has a hydrolytic enzyme which digest the invading particles.

So the right answer is LYSOSOME which is in larger amount in macrophages than skin cell.
