function of the following
systems:
Esophagus: esophagus is also
referred to as the food pipe of the gullet which is present in the
vertebrates in which there would be passages of food after
ingestion to the stomach. During this passage, there would be
peristaltic contraction. This is a fibromuscular tube, that would
be traveling behind the trachea. It carries out functions of
swallowing and reducing the gastric refluxes.
Pharynx: pharynx is the part of the
throat that is present on the back of the nasal cavity as well as
the mouth. This is present over the larynx and the esophagus. This
is the conducting zone of nostrils and helps in vocalisation.
Glottis: this is the opening
present in the vocal folds. The functions are in voicing or
pronounciation, as well as sound production.
Trachea: this is also referred to
as the wind pipe and it connects the pharynx with the lungs. This
organ allows air passage.
compare the structural features of the esophagus (a tube
posterior to the trachea), trachea and small airways and how this
relates to their functions. Discuss the compositions of the
esophagus and lung tissue by comparing their density when placed in
water.

6. What are the levels of the respiratory system, starting with
the trachea as the ‘first level.’ Make the last level the smallest
unit of the lungs. What major process/function happens at the
smallest level?

the wall of the trachea – the same structure seen on your slide) a.
What criteria must be satisfied for an epithelium to be considered
stratified?
1. Why is the pseudostratified columnar epithelium lining the
trachea not considered a true stratified epithelium?
2. Identify goblet cells in the epithelium
lining the trachea. What is the function of the product secreted by
these unicellular glands within the epithelium? [Note; The function
