HOCl

CH2Cl2

NH3

Br2

ICl

HI

2.

bent

3.

trigonal plannar

4.

trigonal pyramidal

5.

tetrahedral

Solutions

Expert Solution

CH4: Central Carbon is SP3 hybridized and hence it is tetrahedral.

HOCl : Central oxygen atom is SP3 hybridized but there are two loan pairs of electrons and hence the other two bonds will be pushed. Thus it makes the H-O-Cl bond bent

CH2Cl2 : Central Carbon atom is SP3 hybridized and hence it is Tetrahedral

NH3 : Central Nitrogen atom is sp3 hybridized but due to the loan pair all other bonds gets pshued towards each other and hence grometry will be trigonal pyramidal.

Br2 : There are only two atoms so the geometry is linear.

Icl : There are only two atoms so the geometry is linear.

HI : There are only two atoms so the geometry is linear.
