Identify the six fundamental pedestrian conditions that should be prioritized in transit station area planning. Also please define what is a bus bay?
6 fundamental conditions:
a) Security = A pedestrian must not be suffering from anxiety of getting robbed or feel threatened by any sort
b) Safety = Pedestrians must feel that they are safe from any kind of health hazards in the environment or accidents due to vehicular collision
c) Comfort = The capacity and quality of the pathway should be sufficient and it must not be downsized by rain, wind , heat, etc.
d) Ease of entry = When someone is moving to/from the station the path should not be too steep to cause problems especially for elderly people.
e) Aesthetics = the environment should be suitable for walking and encouraging to use public transport
f) Directness = length should be minimised so that the pedestrian's distance covered is short.
Bus bay = it is an extension or widening of the lanes provided in order for public transport like buses to stop without causing obstruction to the normal flow of traffic. Bus stops are also laid along side for the boarding of passengers.
