1. Evolutionary change refers to a process in which change occurs very slowly. In other words, evolution means a process where changes occur in different stages. For example, changes in the behavior man over a period of time. Changes in the environmental conditions over a period of time. An effective company evolves over time to sustain in the marketplace. It listens customer complaints, feedback and take actions quickly to evolve its products faster than its competitors.


Revolutionary change refers to a change that occurs suddenly. It does not occur phase by phase. For example, changes in organizational structures or changes in political parties which occurs suddenly. There is also revolutionary changes in culture, economy and socio-political conditions.


2. Re-engineering means the process of bringing changes in the company's work procedures. It is the process of reviewing various phases of business and steps taken to improve it. Re-engineering is basically done to improve the market position, become more familiar among the customers, increase company revenues and improve the products and services. Re-engineering helps a company to analyze the strengths and weaknesses and take necessary steps to bring changes in the company so that it will help to get a better position in the marketplace. Re-engineering an organization involves several processes, starting from organization structure to working process of the organization. It must be planned first, what to change, how to change and what are the implications of change. Re-engineering brings changes in the overall productivity of the company. Sometimes re-engineering is costly for the organization and also for the employees as there is changes in departments are made which may require layoffs. But, in future it may be productive for the company and also for the employees to be placed in other multi-national companies. Many companies are following the process of re-engineering in order to get profits and long-term success. In order to maintain growth and sustainability, a company needs re-engineering periodically. Keeping in mind, the pace of change in various organizations, i think re-engineering is becoming a popular instrument of change today.
