Egypt was an ancient marvel. It thrived in so many areas and can not be over looked when talking about the beginning of Western Civilization.

1)How did Menes(Narmer) solidify the early phases of the civilization?

  • during the earliest histpry of Egypt , called the ARCHAIC period , Egypt was separated into two lands - Upper and Lower Egypt
  • The king of the upper Egypt was known as Menes.
  • Menes sent the army down the Nile and defeated the king of lower Egypt in battle.
  • In this way Menes United the kingdom and joined the two separate parts together.
  • Menes ,sometimes also known as Narmer, became the first pharoah.
  • He setup his new capital of united Egypt in city of Memphis in lower Egypt.
  • Tennessee is named after Memphis , Egypt.
  • During the Archaic period , Egyptians developed a system of writing we call Hieroglyphics. This came from from Greek words meaning secret writings.

  • The Egyptians beleived in afterlife , and kept necessary belongings with the dead during their burials , which are often seen when mummies are discovered from Egypt. Whereas the greeks did not beleive in afterlife and beleived that this is the only life they get.
  • They both had gods to represent every aspect of life. The greek gods were more centered around culture and emotion while Egypt was more focussed on calender and the movement of time , shifting of seasons.

  • Ancient egyptian writing is known as Hieroglyphics i.e. sacred carvings and developed at some point prior to early dynastic period.
  • Ancient greek writings were known as LINEAR B , several thousand sun dried clays have been found on island of Crate. They represent earliest form of greek writings.
