can a changeful AC current be measured over time? if so, with what instrument?

Solutions

Expert Solution

If we directly connect ac voltage to a permanent magnet moving coil based ammeter then it will not work because after every half cycle of AC direction of current changes so needle experiences force in opppsite direction and hence due to inertia needle of meter can not respond so quickly and also does not give correct reading.

One suitable meter to measure AC current is hot wire ammeter that measures rms value of current. It is suitable for both ac and dc current but not value of ac current with time.

We can use a Cathode ray oscilloscope which gives the waveform of current/voltage due to which we can find magnitude of AC with time also its frequency, shape, time period, peak to peek voltage/current.

Avoiding an accident while driving can depend on reaction time. That time, measured from the time the driver first sees the danger until the driver gets his/her foot on the brake pedal, can be described by a normal model with mean 1.9 seconds and standard deviation 0.13 seconds. What is meant by the capacitive current in a liquid dielectric when using AC to determine the resistivity as explained in the sentence below: "Alternating current resistance measurements cannot successfully be made when the conductivity of a liquid solution is too low. This is because the capacitative current in the measuring cell may be so much larger than the resistive current that it prevents the latter from being determined accurately."
