can a changeful AC current be measured over time? if so, with what instrument?

Solutions

Expert Solution

If we directly connect ac voltage to a permanent magnet moving coil based ammeter then it will not work because after every half cycle of AC direction of current changes so needle experiences force in opppsite direction and hence due to inertia needle of meter can not respond so quickly and also does not give correct reading.

One suitable meter to measure AC current is hot wire ammeter that measures rms value of current. It is suitable for both ac and dc current but not value of ac current with time.

We can use a Cathode ray oscilloscope which gives the waveform of current/voltage due to which we can find magnitude of AC with time also its frequency, shape, time period, peak to peek voltage/current.

1. The time to solve a puzzle is being measured for two groups, elderly (over 70) and kids (under 10). For the 120 adults tested it took an average time of 24 minutes with a standard deviation of 4 minutes to solve the puzzle. For the sample of 88 kids it took an average time of 22 minutes with a standard deviation of 5 minutes to solve the puzzle. a) At the .05 level is there a difference in the...

The amount of oxygen consumption was measured in seven individuals over two periods of time while sitting with their eyes closed. During the first period, they listened to an exciting adventure story; during the second period of time, they heard restful music. The researcher is not sure whether participants will consume more or less oxygen during the story compared with the music. Here are their results: Subject Story Music 1 5.8 5.3 2 8.1 7.2 3 6.4 6.3 4 7.8...

What is meant by the capacitive current in a liquid dielectric when using AC to determine the resistivity as explained in the sentence below: "Alternating current resistance measurements cannot successfully be made when the conductivity of a liquid solution is too low. This is because the capacitative current in the measuring cell may be so much larger than the resistive current that it prevents the latter from being determined accurately."

The absorbance of a cationic iron(II) sample solution was measured in a spectrophotometer, but the instrument returned an error because the absorbance was too high. The sample was then diluted by using a pipette to take 100.0 μL of the sample and injecting it into a cuvette already containing 2.00 mL of water (total volume is 2.00 mL + 100.0 μL). The absorbance value of the diluted solution corresponded to a concentration of 7.71×10−6 M . What was the concentration...
