Provide an example of some workplace phenomenon that has influencing factors. (a) Denote which is the independent variable (IV) and which is the dependent variable (DV). (b) List at least two (2) variables that might act as moderating (M) variables, thereby strengthening or weakening the relationship between the IV and DV. Explain why you believe this to be the case.
A) 1. Independent variable(sometimes known as the manipulated variable) is the variable whose change isn't affected by any other variable in the experiment. Either the scientist has to change the independent variable herself or it changes on it's own common, nothing else in the experiment affects or changes it. Two examples of common independent variable are age and time. There is nothing you or anything else can do to speed up or slow down time or increase or decrease age. They are independent of everything else. In simple we can say what the scientific changes or what changes on its own.
2. Dependent variable:- Dependent variable (sometimes known as the responding variable) is what is being studied and measured in the experiment. It's what changes as a result of the changes to the independent variable. An example of dependent variable is how tall you are at different ages. The dependent variable (hight) depends on the independent variable(age). In simple we can say it is what is being measured/studied. Below experiment in which independent and dependent variables identified. 1) you want to figure out which brand of microwave chips the most kernels so you can get the most value for your money. You test different brands of chips to see which bag pops the most chips kernels. a) idependent variable: Brand of chips bag (its the independent variable because you are actually deciding the chips bag brands) b) dependent variable:-number of kernels od chips(this is the dependent variable because it's what you measure for each chips brand)
B) Moderating variable also called moderator it is changes the strength or direction of an effect between two variables. x & y. In other words, it affects the relationship between the independent variable and dependent variable. Moderating variables can be qualitative (non numerical) or quantitative(numerical). Moderating variable is a variable that had the ability to affect the strength or the weakness of relation between two existing variables using moderator variable in models of analysis is adequate when we are exoecting that the model is a contexual one. That is the relation between two variable exist, but when third variable appears, the exusting relation changes it's direction, strenthens, or weakens the independent and dependent variable. Hence I belive this is to be the case.
