Solutions

Expert Solution

Answer 2:- 2 tablets of 2.5mg should be given to the patient to satisfy the 5.0mg p.o dosage.

Answer 3:- 0.5 ml from the vial containing 5mg/ml should be administered to get the desired dose of 2.5mg IV.

Answer 4:- Patient should receive 0.8 ml of dose from the vial containing 10mg/ml to get desired dose of 8 mg.

Answer 5:-Vial contains 0.05mg/ml ie: it contains 50 mcg/ml drug (as 0.05 mg=50mcg). Therefore patient should be admisnistered 1 ml of the dosage form containing 0.05mg=50mcg/ml of drug.

Answer 6:- 1/2 g= 500mg. The vial contains 200mg/ml. Therefore 2.5 ml will contain 500mg. Therefore 2.5 ml must be administered to get desired dose of 1/2 g.

Answer 7:- D5W to infuse at 125ml/hr. Drop factor 10gtt/ml.

Therefore Rate(gtt/min) = (125ml/hr * 10 gtt/ml)/60min/hr = 1250/60 = 20.8 gtt/min. Thus, Rate = 20.8gtt/min.

Answer 8:- Weight of patient 75 kg. Desired dose = 0.004 mg /kg.

Therefore for 75 kg patient desired dose = 0.004*75 = 0.3 mg. 400mg drug is present in 500 ml saline. Therefore 0.3 mg will be present in 0.375ml.

Thus to satisfy requirement of 0.3mg/min dosage to the patient,

the rate should be 0.375 ml(contains 0.3 mg drug)/ min.

Answer 9:- 125lbs =56.7 kg. Thus the dose required for 56.7 kg = 60 (mg/kg/day)*56.7 kg = 3402 mg/day.

Vial contains 100mg/ml. Thus to satisfy dose of 3402 mg, 34.02 ml must be administered.

Answer 10:- Prescribed dosage is 100mg bid. Available dosage form is of 50 mg. Thus 2 tablets of 50 mg must be taken bid to satisfy the dose. Thus 4 tablets of 50 mg are required per day (bid dosage). Client is on vacation for 2 weeks ie; 15 days.

Therefore client must carry 15*4 = 60 tablets of 50 mg dosage to stisfy 100mg bid dose requirement.

Answer 11:- Ordered dose is 1.5g q8h ie; once every 8 hr for 7 days. Now once every 8 hr during wakefulness means thrice in a day. Available dosage form contains 500mg. Thus 3 tablets will be required every 8 hr per day. Thus 3 tablets will be required 3 times in a day. 9 tablets of 500 mg will be required for a day. Thus for 7 days tablets required are 7*9 = 63 tablets of 500 mg.

Answer 12:- Prescribed dose is 600U. Available dosage is 1000U/ml. Thus 0.6 ml of 1000U/ml must be received by patient to get desired dose of 600 U.

Answer 13:- 2000ml (2 l) administered in 12 hr. Therefore, 166.7 ml should be given in an hr. In 8 hrs 1300 ml is administered. Thus, in remaining 4 hrs, 700 ml is to be administered. ie; 700/4 = 175ml/hr.

Required Rate gtt/min = (175ml/hr * 60 gtt/ml)/ 60 min/hr = 10500/60

Thus required rate in gtt/min = 175.
