Question 1
available dose = 0.05 mg/2ml
ordered dose= 90 mcg (change the mcg to mg because it is the available dose is given in mg, so 1 mcg=1000 mg)
= 90/1000 = 0.09 mg
For calculation, the ml, use the formula,
(ordered dose/available doses) x ml
=(0.09/0.05) x 2 ml
= 1.8 x 2
=3.6 ml
So 3.6 ml will be administered.
Question 2
Ordered dose = 1000 mg
Available dose = 500mg/tablet
Use the formula,
=ordered dose / available dose
= 1000/500
= 2
So 2 tablets will be administered in single dose.
1000 mg is advised 4 hourly, in 12 hours 3 doses will be given. so a maximum of 6 tablets can be given for 12 hours.
Question 3
order dose = 200 mcg (change to mg) = 200/1000 = 0.2 mg
Available dose = 0.1 mg /tablet
Calculate the number of tablet by using the formula,
= ordered dose/ available dose
= 0.2/0.1
=2
So 2 tablets will be administered.
Question 4
Answer: Available dose = 20 mEq/10 ml
ordered dose = 40 meq
use the formula,
required ml = (ordered dose/available dose) x available ml
=(40/20) x 10
=20
Therefore, 20 ml will be administered.
Question 5
Answer;
available dose = 300 mcg/ml (available ml is 1 ml)
ordered dose = 690 mcg
Use the formula,
Required ml= (Ordered dose /available dose) x available ml = (690/300) x 1= 2.3
2.3 ml od medication will be administered.
Question 6
First, we need to calculate for ml per dose
ordered dose= 0.1 g ( change it to mg as the available dose is given in mg) =0.1x1000= 100 mg
available dose = 250 mg/ 2 ml ( available ml is 2 ml)
use the formula
Required ml = (ordered dose/available dose) x available ml
= (100/250) x 3ml = 1.2 ml
1.2 ml will be administered per dose. As it is advised Q8h, in 24 hours it will be given 3 times a day, (1.2x 3) = 3.6 ml. So, 3.6 ml of injection will be given in 24 hours.
question 7
Answer: available dose = 1g/3ml
Ordered dose= 750 mg ( change it to g as the available dose is in g) = 750/1000 = 0.75 g
use the formula,
required ml= (ordered dose/available dose) x available ml = (0.75/1) x 3 = 2.25 ml or approximaltely 2.3 ml
2.3 ml will be administered perdose.
Question 8
available dose= 50mg/3ml
ordered dose= 75 mg
By using the same formula, in the above question
(75/50) x 3 = 4.5 ml
4.5 ml will be administered per dose.
Note: the unit for the available dose and ordered dose should be sam while calculating.
